Exeter College, Oxford
About Us
The Exonian Choir is a London-based vocal ensemble made up of former choral scholars from Exeter College Chapel Choir, University of Oxford and beyond.
Founded in 2016, we meet several times a year to perform the music we learned and loved as choral scholars, in both concert and sacred settings. Over the last few years, we have sung choral evensong at Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral, and Westminster Cathedral, and we have performed as part of the Brandenburg Festival. Summer 2019 saw our first international tour, singing at L’Église de la Madeleine and the American Cathedral, Paris.
Director of Music: Tim Muggeridge
Tim founded The Exonian Choir in October 2016 by bringing together former choristers and alumni from the Chapel Choir of Exeter College, Oxford, where he was Organ Scholar between 2013 and 2016 whilst reading Music. Since then he has lead them in performance at the Brandenburg Festival, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and on tour in Paris.
While at Exeter, Tim directed the well regarded mixed-voice chapel choir in their thrice weekly services and broadcast with them on Radio 3, 4, and Classic FM, releasing two critically acclaimed CDs. He studied organ under William Whitehead, and conducting with Paul Spicer.
Since leaving Oxford Tim was, for a time, Acting Director of Music at Holy Trinity Church, Bracknell and now maintains a busy freelance schedule as a conductor and organ recitalist. In his spare time Tim is an airline pilot with Virgin Atlantic on their Airbus fleet.

Sing With Us

We are always keen to hear from other former choir members who would like to join us for a service, concert, or tour.
We usually meet a few hours in advance of the service to rehearse, and you’ll be sure to find us in a nearby pub for a few hours afterwards. We’re a friendly bunch.
Please contact us at exonianchoir@gmail.com to find out more.

Hear Us
We’re delighted to share this recording of There Is An Old Belief from Exeter alumnus C.H.H. Parry’s Songs of Farewell, recorded at St James Church Sussex Gardens, London, in 2022. Take a look at the the Hear Us page for more recordings.

An update on our founding fundraiser
We did it! We’re absolutely delighted to announce that we have exceeded our fundraising target, raising over £1,400, and plans are coming together for our promotional video. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without your generosity, and we are so grateful to each and every one of you who donated.
In particular, we would like to thank Dame Frances Cairncross and Hamish McRae who have been long-time supporters of the choir ever since our inception, and were our Major Donors for this campaign. We wouldn’t be where we are now without them, and are so grateful for their generosity.
With the money we’ve raised, we’ll be able to get the ball rolling on a shiny new look for the choir, which in turn will help us to share the music we love far and wide. As lockdown eases, we’re so looking forward to singing again. There couldn’t be a better time to be preparing for the future, and we couldn’t be doing so without your support.
Our warmest thanks,
The Exonian Choir Committee
